Research record
I developed the full path from sensor signal to exercise feedback: an accelerometer-equipped device, Bluetooth transfer to a smartphone, an HTTP handoff to the server, K-NN-based classification, and a result viewer for the web or application layer.
For each repetition, the service used the minimum, maximum, and average acceleration values across the x, y, and z axes, alongside the combined magnitude of movement. That feature set distinguished four dumbbell exercises while keeping the processing path light enough for real-time use.
What the evaluation made visible
- Hammer curl reached 98.66% accuracy; bent-over dumbbell kickback reached 99.32%.
- Overhead extensions and side lateral raise made the boundary of the approach clearer: performance fell when motions were performed continuously and form changed with fatigue.
- The next step was not simply a larger model, but personalized models and a comparison of alternative classifiers.
